This past weekend, my entire family went to the “Farm” for an afternoon. The Farm is “heaven on earth” to me. I would stay there every minute of every day if I could. It’s such a special place. It became even more special this past weekend because my two youngest girls went fishing for the first time. And, even better, they both caught their first fish.
I will forever relish August 25, 2013 because I was blessed to have this experience with my girls. My five-year old was so excited to fish with daddy. Once my two-year old saw her excitement, she got excited too. Hearing my five-year old yell with excitement, “I caught a fish!” was a pure thrill. This was a great family moment I will remember forever.
We all experience things for the first time but do you cherish them, much less even remember them. Sure there are a few first time experiences you will always remember. But they are probably few and far between. What about the not so common first time experiences?
Do you remember your first day at your job? I do. It was an amazing and terrifying experience. Do you remember your first day of high school or college? What about the first time you drove a car without a parent?
There are so many things we experience for the first time. Relish those experiences. More importantly, share those experiences with others. Don’t just talk about them. Help others also have their first experiences.
I remember the first time I was privileged to eat at Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse. The food was amazing and I had a great time but my wife was not there with me. To share the experience, I then took her for her first dinner there and made sure we ordered the sweet potato casserole. Wow! It was even more amazing because I shared the experience with the most important person in my life.
First time experiences are great but sharing those experiences are even better. What first experiences have you had that you are willing to share in the comments below?
