Follow One Course Until Successful (FOCUS)
I first heard this acronym while listening to John Lee Dumas’ Entrepreneur On Fire podcast. As usual, I was utilizing my downtime while driving to learn about other businesses. John puts out a new podcast every day so there is always a supply of entertainment/education to be had.
I can’t remember which episode it was when I first heard him explain FOCUS. Because I was driving, I was not able to write it down. So I forgot what all the words were in the acronym.
Naturally, when I returned home at the end of the week and went down into my wife’s office, I noticed she had this displayed on her office wall. Follow One Course Until Successful (see picture above).
That is an awesome saying! Focus can be really hard if you’re tired, bored, unhappy. Thankfully, I am rarely bored or unhappy. It still can be hard to do. But, thinking about it in these terms helps me.
If I just stay on course with what I’m doing, I will be successful. Your definition of success will be different from mine. Be careful, though, to focus on productive things because you can be successful at failing. That’s not what you want!
Then, just last week while taking a rare jog on a rare nice day, I was listening to an episode of the Think Act Get podcast with James Schramko and Ezra Firestone. Ezra quoted, “Follow one course until successful” near the beginning of the episode. I listen to all these episodes but that got me hooked even deeper there.
Do you have trouble focusing? One issue might be that you try focusing on too many things at once. Pick one thing. Yes, just one thing. Choose that one thing and do it. Continue doing it until you succeed.
Until next time: Be intentional. Be happy. Enjoy your success.
