Remember that scene in the movie Top Gun where Goose is talking to Hollywood and Wolfman about beating Jester in the practice mission? After Hollywood tells Goose that he and Wolfman didn’t beat Jester, Wolfman says, “Thirty seconds. We went like this, he went like that. I said to Hollywood, ‘Where’d he go?’ Hollywood says, ‘Where’d who go?'”
Anyone who grew up watching that movie has quoted the “Where’d who go?” line about as much as “Negative, Ghost Rider, the pattern is full.”
Where’d who go?
If you continue on your current path and just let your career happen to you instead of intentionally happening to your career, people who grew up with you during your career will be asking, “Where’d who go?”
They won’t remember you at all. Your name won’t even sound familiar. Is that what you want for your career? Hopefully, you want more. Much more.
You can continue working the 9 to 5, living comfortably but never really experiencing happiness. As William Wallace said in the movie Braveheart, “Every man dies. Not every man really lives.”
Don’t you want to really live? You can enjoy all the rewards and joys life has to offer. You can choose your career. You can choose your life’s landscape. But, it won’t happen by accident.
It’s time…right now. Take control of your life. Live intentionally. Choose your future. Take the steps to make it happen. No one can do it for you.
Maybe you just want to climb the corporate ladder. That’s great! You can do that but you need to make it happen. You cannot just wait for it to happen.
Do you know what happens to those who sit on the sidelines and wait? They never get into the game.
Maybe you want out of the corporate world and want to create your own destiny through entrepreneurship. That’s great too! You can do it if you’re intentional about it.
That great idea of yours is not enough though. It’s only the starting point. Take that great idea and do some market research. Identify whether it is a viable business model. Is someone willing to pay for it?
Who knows…unless you’re intentional about it.
When you decide to be intentional about your present and your future, you will quickly begin experiencing happiness. With intentional actions, comes anticipated results.
Results are what you’re after. Once you realize you can do what you dreamed of, happiness sets in.
Now is the time to take that first step. What will you do today to put yourself on that path to happiness? It’s your life. It’s your dream. Make it what you want it to be.
